Welcome to the Swing Tutor, v2 Before you run the tutor, enable popups for nasa1.ifsm.umbc.edu and userpages.umbc.edu. The swing tutor teaches
you the Java code to display a text string in a browser window on the
world wide web. It is written as a series of Java applets. To facilitate
your
learning, the Java code is arbitrarily organized into the following 11
lines of code:
![]() Several of the tutor sections require a large file to be downloaded from the server. When you move from one section of the tutor to another section, please wait until the transition is fully complete. Don't use your browser's back button, refresh button, or stop button because that will cause the tutor to terminate improperly. The tutor will work with IE, Netscape, or Firefox, but Firefox is preferred. Be aware that the window for entering your User ID sometimes is displayed behind the IE browser. You may sometimes have to move the browser or minimize it to see the ID window. Browsers behave differently, so please be aware of that when you access and use the tutor. In particular, IE 7 is slow and "fussy." Sometimes you may have to click the center of the browser to enable the controls, and sometimes you may have to click a button twice before it will work. On other occasions, a window may be moved behind the IE 7 browser. Be aware of these potential issues with the browsers. Be very careful if you are using tabs with your browser. If an instruction tells you to close a browser and you are using tabs, be sure that you close the TAB, not the browser. Otherwise, you will end the tutor prematurely by closing all the browser windows. Also, the browser must allow popups. Make sure that you allow popups before starting the tutor. It is best to use the tutor on one learning occasion. However, there are transition points throughout the tutor where you can stop and rest. If you start the tutor with the first link below, you will automatically be taken through the several stages of the tutor. You may use the other links below to revisit a section at a later time. Be sure to allow enough time for the transition from one stage to the next to complete. UMBC students should use your UMBC username for your user ID. Do not use your SSN. Guests may enter GUEST when asked for a user ID. If you ever receive the below message window, select "Run."
